‘Cuz she’s got…PERsonality

I realized the other day that Baby B is the smallest infant in her daycare class aside from the 10-week-old newborn (I’ll call her Teeny Tiny) even though there are only a couple babies older than Baby B. But she looked so grown up yesterday when Teeny Tiny was fussing in the swing and she went over, stood up at the swing, and started patting Teeny Tiny on the legs. Just once I had to tell her to be softer with her patting (I think it would’ve been fine if it were Baby B’s sibling–it was far from hitting–but I felt better telling her to be softer since it was someone else’s kid), but she listened and continued with a softer tap.

While watching her do this, I couldn’t help but envision how Baby B would be with a future sibling. (No, this is not on the near horizon, but it’s always an issue that pops into my head as it relates to Baby B.) Will she be a loving big sister and a good role model and helper? Will jealousy be the predominant reaction with a sibling? Will she have a lifelong friend out of it? All of these questions won’t be answered until a later date, of course, but nonetheless it’s fun to daydream about how things may go (both the good and the bad), especially when I see Baby B in situations like this.

There are so many situations I see in her these days that show me just how much she’s growing up and really taking on a personality of her own. We’ve always been silly with her, but she’s now started doing silly things back to us:

*Last night, she blew raspberries onto The Husband’s bare shoulder (making quite an authentic farting sound, I might add), would look up at us, giggle, then do it again.

*After her bath last night, The Husband stood in the bathtub and pulled the shower curtain shut then played peekaboo a few times. I got Baby B close enough to the shower curtain so she could grab it herself, and she kept pulling it open and closed, leaning her head into the shower to find The Husband whenever she’d open it.

*She likes to dangle her sippy cup over the edge of the highchair tray and act like she’s going to drop it (which she often does on purpose), but then we grab for it and she pulls it away from us like she was faking us out…you can just tell from the devious, amused smile on her face.

*She loves to make this pseudo-angry scrunchy face at us and then laughs at herself.

*She “attacked” the snaps on my nursing bra last night after she was done eating. She’d lean back with a focused look on her face, then launch forward and tag it with her hands. Then she’d lean back and start the whole thing over again.

It’s no wonder I’m laughing all the time at home!

I agree with Meredith. She WOULD be a great big sister. I love how much of a ham she is for you both, too – little class clown!
