Immune system: ACTIVATE!

I didn’t want to mention this previously, but both Baby B and I came down with cold-like symptoms on Monday night. I was terrified hers would go straight to her chest, but so far she’s had only minor symptoms, is acting perfectly like herself, and has been able to go to school all week. She’ll have a slight rattle in her chest when she wakes up or sometimes right before bed, but it seems like the inhaler takes care of it and most of the day she has a (clear) runny nose.

I figure either her immune system has kicked in and finally knows what to do to fight off this crud, or whatever she has wasn’t nearly as bad in the first place. It makes me feel better to think it was a more successful immune system response, so that’s what I’ll say it was. She was doing a lot better this morning before school, and I just gave her the inhaler as a precaution, not because she necessarily needed it.

I’ve started to do some preliminary research into in-home childcare options, and it’s proving to be difficult to find someone in our area. (And I’m not crazy about someone coming to our home.) I’m checking referrals from our county’s child care council, newspaper ads, and listings on Craigslist. We live on the very west edge of town (about a mile or less from the county border), but everything I seem to be running across is literally on the other side of town on the east side. With my commute to work being so short and The Husband working downtown, it doesn’t make logical sense for him to drive 25 to 30 minutes over there, then backtrack 15 minutes downtown to work. For me it would be driving 25 to 30 minutes over there and the same amount of time back. In a pinch it could work (if, say, our daycare closed all of a sudden or something), but it’s not really something I want to consider long-term.

It seems that a lot of people find their in-home provider through word of mouth, so both The Husband and I are going to have to start asking around. Unfortunately, many of my co-workers do not live in the city we’re in, so I’m not sure how helpful their connections will be. Still, it can’t hurt to ask.

I am so glad to hear Baby B is doing good and it didn’t trurn into anything else. Good luck on your search for in-home Daycares. Even if your co-workers don’t live in the city you do they might know somebody who knows somebody. I would ask to say you tried. Good luck!!
